Survival: Basics

This class will offer the novice outdoorsperson an excellent introduction to survival methods and strategy. It will also offer the experienced outdoorsperson the opportunity to learn more and varied techniques, and most importantly, stay in practice with these perishable skills. We will look at personal safety (basic first aid), avoiding hypothermia and hyperthermia (maintaining proper core body temp) with both shelter and fire-building, procuring and cleaning water in the wild, and obtainment of food, particularly edible and medicinal plants. This class will be very hands on and will focus on both natural (primitive methods) and more modern methods using gear that may be available. There will be several scenario based situations in which the participants will be involved in, so you can practice the skills that are being taught. This will also serve to develop solid critical thinking skills in a stressed environment under safe training conditions.

Survival: Continuing and Advanced

These classes are held to further train those who have graduated from survival basics. These classes are held to strain and challenge those that need, or simply want the training under safe conditions. These trips are done with VERY minimal supplies and often times in challenging weather conditions when available. These classes are open to both civilian, law enforcement and military units.

Scout

Our scout class is one in which those involved will dedicate themselves to the art of being unseen in the wilderness. If you desire to see more and not be seen, then this class is for you. We will teach you how best to camouflage yourself with both man-made and natural materials. We will also teach the art of moving silently through open and dense cover. The format of this class is typically setup with teams working with and against one another to achieve objectives. This class will couple both old school and modern methods of tactical movement.

Land Navigation: Basics

This class will take novices in the area of map and compass utilization and make you proficient in the basics of orienteering. We will go into great detail on how to utilize a compass, how to read a map, and how to use the two together. We consider this one of the foundation skills needed for any person interested in getting "off the trail" more. We will teach you how best to handle taking bearings, determine declination, read and utilize map scales, and read various maps. This course is incredibly hands on with both classroom work and field exercises.

We will expand on topics such as pace count, and terrain association in this class in a way that makes it very appealing to those that want to hone and increase their map and compass skill set.

Tracking

Tracking is at the very core of all things outdoors. Whether you want to hone your skills for assisting your team on the next Search-and-Rescue, LE/military, or to simply study tracking for the art of it, we believe we can help you get started. Studying and reading tracks; human, animal or otherwise can help you understand more of what is going on around you at all times. Being a good tracker is a honorable skill, and one in which a tracker never stops learning.

Edible/Medicinal Plants

Most people would be surprised to know that there is a plethora of edible and medicinal plants around each of us every day. We lovingly refer to this class as the "Eatin' weeds class". A number of the plants that we refer to as weeds, are actually species with great benefits to us. Benefits range from simply supplying nourishment in the way of food, to plants that serve as excellent organ cleansers.

Hiking Basics

This class will help those that are new to outdoor experiences, get started hiking. We will teach you how to find good places to go on day hikes in your area, what gear you would be wise to get, and how to take that into full-on overnight stays in the outdoors. We partner with several good gear outlets to help you find the basics that you need and we provide the training so your new experiences in the outdoors are positive ones.

Flintknapping/Primitive Tool Making

Arrowheads, spearpoints, cutting and scraping tools and other primitive tools are not just for those seeking ancient artificats. We can help you learn to do this skill, so that you too can make field expedient tools in the wild.

Boy Scout/Girl Scout Classes

We have assisted scout groups in obtaining dozens of field badges ranging from wilderness survival, plant and tree identification, wilderness first aid, cooking in the outdoors, and all sorts of nature awareness skills.

Game Processing

We will utilize this class to help others learn to take responsibility for their own food sources. We will begin by respectfully taking the life of small game, processing it, and then utilizing various methods to prepare and cook the game. We will be utilizing both old school methods of over-the-fire methods as well as helpful hints to make wild game more palatable for the whole family at home. Wild game protein is rich in nutrients and the obvious protein without the added steroids and food additives given to domesticated animals.
